Offered is this wonderful Pittsburgh or Handel obverse painted scenic lamp. An obverse painted lamp is painted on the outside of the shade, as opposed to a reverse painted lamp, which is painted on the inside of the shade. Handel and Pittsburgh employed older women and young girls to paint their shades; they were not allowed to sign them, as they were not skilled enought to put either their name or signature on it.

This lovely example is of a bucolic winter scene of a home and trees nestled amidst hills and valleys. The base has a wonderful patina. This Pittsburgh or Handel is just shy of 15" in diameter and 22" tall. Its condition is excellent with no chips or cracks. It retains its original hardware and finish and has been rewired with period appropriate cloth cord.

I have been enjoying this lamp but am now offering it for someone else to enjoy its wonderful glow. It is truly a fabulous early 20th century lamp!
