1860s Civil War Sculpture Lamps by Guillemin
(Item: 0217)
Offered are these late 1860s to 1870 spelter sculpture lamps, made from signed sculptures of Civil War soldiers by noted sculptor Guillemin. Guillemin cast sculptures of Civil War sculptures to commemorate the heroes of the war. Depicted are two Union soldiers marching off to battle. One soldier is the drummer and the other soldier is blowing his horn. They have the most somber, lifelike expressions - they are incredibly well done.
Each sculpture on the lamp is signed and they are of the period. The condition of the statues is very good, with some age-appropriate flaws. They were gilded, but there is some wear on the gilt. One soldier is missing his drumstick and the other is missing his horn. They have been remounted on new triple oak bases, and made into high quality lamps.
Each lamp measures 17 inches to the top of the sculpture and 33 inches to the top of the harp. I recently ordered French silk bell shades to go on them, (not pictured) which will be included. You can see these at my shop at 422 1/2 Warren Street, Hudson, NY or call for information: 518-828-9996 (shop) or 845-800-6632 (cell.)
